Local tile contractors, straight answers
Tile contractors who waterproof the shower before they tile it, flatten the floor before they set it, and grout the way the tile wants.
About Nashville's Tile and Stone
Nashville's Tile and Stone is a tile and stone contractor serving Nashville and 64 more towns across 12 counties of Middle Tennessee — and we stake our name on how the work goes.
Tile fails from underneath — a shower without a proper pan, a floor set on a bouncing subfloor, large tile on an unflattened slab — and the failure takes two years to show. Our setters build the substrate, waterproof to the standard and set the tile flat, and the parts you will never see are on the quote.
What we do
- Waterproof the shower. A tested pan and a membrane system to the standard; the tile is the finish, not the waterproofing.
- Flatten the substrate. Self-leveler on a slab, a stiffened subfloor over joists, because large tile shows every hump and cracks over every bounce.
- Set to the tile’s spec. The right thinset, the right trowel, full coverage checked; large-format tile is set differently from mosaic.
What we will not do
- Tile over a soft floor. A subfloor that flexes cracks the grout in a year; it is stiffened first.
- Grout a shower before the membrane is tested. The pan holds water for a day before anything goes on it.
- Rush the cure. Thinset and waterproofing cure on their schedule, and the shower is not used until they have.
What we actually work on
Tile and natural stone installation in Nashville.
The tile and stone problems Middle Tennessee homeowners bring us most often:
- Grout cracking along the same line
- Tiles sounding hollow underfoot
- Shower leaking into the room below
- Lippage you catch with a bare foot
- Stone stained and never sealed
- Layout that leaves a sliver at the wall
Who does the work
Every tile setter on our crews carries liability insurance on file with us, and the setters doing showers follow the industry’s waterproofing standard on jobs we know.
Beyond the paperwork, the test is how somebody handles the part of a tile and stone job that does not go to plan — the honest call when the estimate has to change, and whether you hear about it before the work or after. The tile contractors who stay with us are the ones who have passed that test on jobs we know about.
Why we do not publish reviews yet
No tile-showroom photos presented as our work and no reviews on this site yet; the proof will be showers and floors done here, shown as owners agree.
Where we work
Tile contractors serving Nashville also cover Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville — 65 towns across 12 counties. Each of the main cities has its own page — what its houses mean for tile and stone, who issues the permits, which neighborhoods are inside the run.
If you want to understand the work before you speak to anyone, our tile and stone guide covers what drives the price, what your options are and what a badly done job looks like — written so you can judge any tile contractor in the region, including us.
Who we are
The owner of Nashville's Tile and Stone is Michael Blair; he runs the business and answers for every page of it. What we publish rests on the trade practice of tile setters, Tennessee code and manufacturer documentation, and is revised when those move; each post has his name and its date on it. Our setters, licensed and insured, keep to what we commit to above, and Nashville's Tile and Stone stands behind each floor, wall and shower.
Before you hire a tile contractor, look the Tennessee license up at verify.tn.gov, get a copy of the certificate of insurance before the first tile comes up, and find your town’s permit office on its city page.
